Deleting Your History…

A lot of people aren’t aware of this one, but deleting your internet history serves a much greater purpose than just keeping your browsing history private.

Whenever you browse the web, the pages you visit and view are saved on your hard-drive.

This means that when you visit the web page for a second time, instead of downloading the page’s information again, your computer simply loads the page from your hard-drive (making it load significantly quicker).

However, this can fill up quite a large space on your hard-drive, and it also stores the information about what web pages you visited on your computer.

So, to save space or stay private, we suggest you clear the history on your browser every now and then. Here’s how:

Internet Explorer
If you use Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 or above click on ‘tools’ and then ‘internet options’. In this menu choose ‘settings’ and ‘view files’.

This should display all the files in your browser history which you can clear by pressing ‘delete’ or ‘delete files’.

You also have the option of automatically deleting your browser history by choosing the ‘advanced’ tab and selecting ’empty temporary internet files folder when browser is closed’. You can find this in the ‘security’ section of the ‘advanced’ tab.

Mozilla Firefox

Clearing the browser history is very simple in Mozilla Firefox: press Ctrl + H to open the history bar in Firefox. To delete the files in the history bar, open the ‘tools’ menu on the browser and click ‘options’.

Then, press ‘privacy’ and in the ‘history’ section click on ‘clear now’ or ‘clear’ to remove browser history.

Google Chrome

Press the wrench or menu symbol in the top right corner of the browser window. Choose ‘history’ from the drop-down menu. Here you can see all the files and web pages stored in your hard-drive.

To clear the browser history again press the wrench or menu button and highlight ‘tools’. Then choose ‘clear browsing data..’. In Google Chrome you can select the amount of time you want to delete the data from and you can choose which type of data to clear too.

Check all the files you want to delete such as ‘clear browsing history’ or ‘clear download history’. Click the ‘clear browsing data’ button at the bottom to finish the process.
